Weekly Wrap – 22nd January 2015

Hi I am Tom McLeod, Co-Founder of McLeod Governance.

This is what I would be thinking about this week.

And in 2015.

What Will Change?

As always after a long break you come back to work thinking about what might change in the year ahead.

And today’s Weekly Wrap is no different.

Today what I want to look at is what will change in internal audit in 2015?

Lower Expectations

Firstly I want to lower expectations.

It is unrealistic to think that internal audit will fundamentally change over the course of the next twelve months.

But what I suspect may happen – as is what is happening elsewhere – is that the seeds of disruption will start.

I saw a quote over the break from Bill Gates that said that any profession that deals with large amounts of data and seeks to make comment on them is in danger of being disrupted by automation.

And my challenge today – my observation today – is what effect will disruption, what effect will digital disruption have on internal audit over the coming twelve months?

Are You Ready?

Are you as an organisation ready for it?

Are you in your skill set ready for it?

And is the profession ready for it?

I suspect that few of us can answer yes to all three questions and that is the challenge we all face as we step bravely into what is the fifteenth year of the two thousands.
