Weekly Wrap – 14th May 2015

Hi I am Tom McLeod, Co-Founder of McLeod Governance.

This is what I would be thinking about this week.

Presidential Visibility

I saw in this last week that President Obama visited South Dakota – the fiftieth state of the Union that he had visited.  And in doing so became only the fourth President to visit all fifty States.

What Makes A Good Auditor?

As I was reading the story it reminded me of a saying that a former boss used to say to me, that:

A good auditor is a seen auditor

In my career some of the great successes – and also some of the failures – have related to my ability to get out to be seen.

Stakeholder Relationships

Firstly the successes.  I remember once visiting a location and the person had at the top of their list “failure of previous incumbent to visit them”.  He crossed that off the list as soon as we sat down.

Don’t Just Visit What is Close By

In other instances I have taken the easy road and not visited locations or alternatively visited locations that were close by but not those ones that are distant.

As I said, a good auditor is a seen auditor and one needs to be out and about not only to be doing the auditing but to  remind people that independent assurance exists and will always continue to exist.
